What Is a Driving Test Swap?

A driving test swap is when two learners agree to exchange their test dates with each other. If you have a test on March 15th but want March 1st, and another learner has March 1st but wants a later date, you can swap — each contacting the DVSA to change to the other's date.

This is legal, completely compliant with DVSA rules, and often the fastest way to get an earlier (or more convenient) test date.

Step-by-Step: How to Swap Your Driving Test

1

Create your Swappy account

Sign up for free at swappy.uk. No credit card required. It takes under 2 minutes.

Tip: Link your ADI instructor's account during setup so they can approve your swap window.

2

List your current test

Enter your test date, time, centre, and your ideal swap preferences (dates, centres, flexibility).

Tip: The more flexible you are on dates and times, the faster you'll find a match.

3

Browse available swaps

Search listings at your preferred centres and filter by date range. Send a swap proposal to any listing that matches your needs.

Tip: Premium members can browse up to 5 centres at once — free members can browse 1.

4

Agree on a call time

Once both parties agree to the swap, you'll choose a time when both of you are free to call the DVSA.

Tip: DVSA phone lines are open Monday–Friday 8am–4pm. Mid-morning Tuesday–Thursday tends to be quickest.

5

Complete the DVSA call

At the agreed time, Swappy calls both of you and adds the DVSA to a 3-way conference call. Both learners change their test dates live on the call.

Tip: Have your booking reference ready. The DVSA agent will need it to make the change.

6

Confirm and you're done

Both changes are confirmed on the same call. You'll get a confirmation email from the DVSA within minutes.

Tip: Screenshot or save your DVSA confirmation as soon as it arrives.

Important Things to Know

Each person uses one of their two allowed DVSA changes when swapping — plan accordingly

Neither date changes until both learners are on the DVSA call and confirm — you can't be left stranded

From June 2026, you can only swap to centres within your geographical area

Your ADI instructor needs to approve the swap if you've linked their account

If your match backs out before the DVSA call, your date remains unchanged — no penalty
