The DVSA is actively detecting "unusual activity" from bots and automated cancellation checkers — and placing booking review markers on learners' licences. This blocks you from booking, changing, or cancelling your test online. Some learners have even had their test cancelled outright, with no refund.

Minimal Personal Data

How the DVSA Swap Call Works
Once you've found a match, you both call DVSA on 0300 200 1122 (option 2) on the same day. The first call requests the swap; the second — before 4pm — confirms it.
Official DVSA Process (from 1 October 2026)
Both of you must call DVSA separately, on the same day. The first learner requests the swap and gives the details of both tests, including the other learner's booking reference. The second learner then calls DVSA themselves to confirm it — ideally before 4pm — and the swap completes on that second call. You never need to be on the same call. Never share your driving licence number or personal details with the other learner.

What to Have Ready for the Call
Have these ready for your own call
The agent verifies your identity and the swap details on your call:
- 1Your driving licence number — the long number on the front of the licence
- 2Your own booking reference — from your booking confirmation
- 3The other learner's booking reference — shared securely in Swappy — it's what ties the two tests together
Also useful to have to hand
- The payment card you used to book (not needed if your instructor booked before 12 May 2026)
- Your current test date, time & centre
- The date, time & centre you've agreed to swap to
- Details of any driving tests you've taken before
On the second call, once the agent has verified both sets of details, they swap the two appointments in their system and email you both your new booking details.
Important: Both learners must consent — that's what the second call is for. DVSA will not ring your partner for you, so agree between you who calls when, and make sure the second caller rings before 4pm.
