How to Swap Your Driving Test Date in 2026 — Step by Step

The complete guide to swapping your UK driving test with another learner — updated for the May 2026 DVSA rule changes.

The 6-Step Process

1. List Your Test on Swappy

Create a free account and list your current test date, time, and centre. Add your preferred date range and centres so we can find you the best match.

2. Browse & Find a Match

Search active listings from other learners. Filter by date, centre, and availability. When you find a match, send them a swap proposal.

3. Agree the Swap & Who Leads the Call

Once both of you agree to swap, decide together who will lead the call to the DVSA and agree a time. Use in-app chat (Premium) or email (Free) to arrange this.

4. Lead Caller Phones the DVSA

The lead caller rings the DVSA on 0300 200 1122 and explains the agreed swap. The other learner waits on standby — the DVSA calls them mid-swap to confirm their side.

5. Have Your Details Ready

Both learners need their provisional driving licence number and test booking reference to hand — the DVSA agent verifies each candidate directly.

6. Swap Confirmed!

The DVSA agent finalises both test bookings in one go. You'll each get a confirmation email. Done — your new test date is locked in!

⚠️ Important: New Rules from May 2026

From 12 May 2026, only the learner driver can manage their test booking — instructors and third parties are blocked. One learner leads the DVSA call and the other must be reachable on standby to confirm their side. Read the full breakdown →
