What Is an Extended Driving Test?

An extended driving test is a full practical test lasting approximately 70 minutes (vs ~40 for a standard test). It's required for drivers who've had their licence revoked following a serious conviction (e.g. dangerous driving). Extended tests cost £124 (weekday) or £150 (evening/weekend).

Key rule: Extended tests can only be swapped with other extended tests. You cannot swap an extended test for a standard test or vice versa — DVSA categorises these as different test types.

How Swappy Handles Extended Tests

Swappy supports extended test listings. When you create a listing and select "extended test", Swappy only shows you potential matches who also have extended tests — ensuring you're always matched like-for-like. The 3-nearest-centres and 2-change rules apply equally to extended tests.

Extended tests have a smaller swap pool — be flexible on date and centre
Weekend extended tests can be swapped with other weekend extended tests
The 3-nearest-centres rule still applies to extended test swaps
Extra time tests (for disability/health reasons) are also categorised separately
