How Swappy Works: Legal Test Date Swapping Explained
Months waiting for a driving test. Someone else has the date you want but needs something later. Swappy connects you — legally, safely, and without bots.

The Problem Swappy Solves
The UK driving test waiting list is broken. In many areas, learners wait 5–8 months for a test slot — even after passing their theory test and completing their lessons. During that wait:
- Skills fade without expensive top-up lessons
- Confidence drops
- Insurance on the learner's car keeps ticking
- Jobs and opportunities that need a licence are delayed
Meanwhile, thousands of learners have test slots they can no longer use — because their life changed, they're not ready, they moved, or the date no longer suits them. They need to give up their slot, but there's no system to match them with someone who wants it.
Swappy is that system.
How a Test Swap Works
- List your test: Sign up on Swappy and post your current test date, centre, and what dates you'd prefer instead
- Browse matches: See other learners whose tests match what you want — their date is close to what you need, at your centre or one you'd accept
- Propose a swap: Send a swap proposal to a learner whose date you want. Agree the swap and decide who will lead the call to the DVSA
- One call finalises both bookings: The lead caller phones the DVSA on 0300 200 1122, while the other learner waits on standby — the DVSA calls them mid-swap to confirm, and the agent completes both changes. Both use one of your two permitted booking changes.
- Done: You have an earlier date. They have a later one. Both got what they needed.
Why This Is Completely Legal
The DVSA's 2026 rules ban third parties changing bookings on a learner's behalf. Swappy doesn't do this. Each learner manages their own booking — Swappy simply provides the platform to find a suitable swap partner and coordinate the timing.
This is equivalent to two learners coordinating a swap through a friend — but Swappy makes it safe, verifiable, and structured so both parties fulfil their commitment.
What If Someone Backs Out?
The swap is coordinated so both parties make their DVSA booking changes simultaneously (or as near as possible). Swappy's system includes safeguards to minimise the risk of one party backing out after the other has changed their booking. Both parties agree to the swap before either changes their booking.
Is Swappy Free?
Basic access to Swappy is free. Premium tiers unlock additional features including search alerts (notify you when a matching swap appears), watchlist functionality, and priority visibility for your listing.
How Many Swaps Can You Do?
From 31 March 2026, the DVSA limits each learner to 2 booking changes per test booking. A swap uses one of your permitted changes. Factor this into your planning — use your changes wisely, and consider swapping only once to a significantly better date rather than multiple small moves.
Who Uses Swappy?
Swappy is used by:
- Learners who are test-ready and want an earlier slot than the DVSA queue provides
- Learners who can no longer attend their booked date (work, illness, life changes) and need a later date
- ADIs who recommend the platform to their pupils as a DVSA-compliant alternative to bots
- Driving schools that manage their pupil pool's test dates through the Swappy ADI portal
