The Week Before Your Driving Test: Your Day-by-Day Checklist
What you do in the 7 days before your test matters as much as the months of lessons beforehand. Here's exactly how to spend the final week.

7 Days Before
- Confirm your test booking details — time, centre, examiner name not needed but confirm date and time
- Plan your route to the test centre and how you'll get there
- Do a full mock test with your instructor — treated exactly as a real test
- Review any recurring feedback from recent lessons and focus your week's practice on those areas
6 Days Before
- Private practice drive: focus on junctions and roundabouts — the most common failure points
- Drive through the test routes if you know them — build familiarity with local hazards
5 Days Before
- Theory revision: refresh your knowledge of road signs and speed limits
- Practise the Show Me Tell Me answers until they're completely automatic
4 Days Before
- Another mock test or structured lesson with your instructor
- Focus on manoeuvres — practise all 4 possible manoeuvres in a car park
3 Days Before
- Lighter practice drive — don't exhaust yourself. Confidence, not cramming.
- Confirm all test day admin: document location, test centre address, arrival plan
2 Days Before
- Short, relaxed drive to keep the feel of the car fresh
- Early night — start getting your sleep pattern right
- Visualise the test going well — mental preparation is underrated
The Night Before
- Lay out everything you need: provisional licence, glasses (if needed), appropriate clothing
- Eat a proper meal — nothing too heavy
- Avoid last-minute cramming — it raises anxiety without improving skills
- Get to bed at a reasonable hour — aim for 7–8 hours sleep
Test Morning
- Eat a slow-release breakfast (porridge, eggs, wholegrain)
- Allow plenty of time — plan to arrive 15 minutes early
- Have a short pre-test lesson with your instructor if possible — 45 minutes to warm up, then arrive
- Don't discuss nerves with friends or family beforehand
- Bring your provisional licence — no licence, no test, no refund
At the Test Centre
- Report to reception and confirm your appointment
- Use the waiting time to do slow breathing (4-7-8 technique)
- When the examiner calls you, greet them naturally — you don't need to be theatrical
- Remember: they want you to pass. Drive as you do in your lessons, and that's enough.

Your test date is sorted — now use this week well.
Swappy helped you find the right date. Now focus on being ready for it.
